Cynthia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped a women's black-owned cleaning business start up with equipment and uniforms.

Cynthia's story

I ran a non-profit in Boston for 19 years as the CEO with the focus on servicing underserved children. In 2018 when I found out that my then boyfriend and now husband was diagnosed with Cancer I had a decision to make. I moved to New York, I tried to keep my business open but eventually closed it in February 2020. I revised my goal list, went back to school to put my skills and knowledge to work. My dream coming from living and growing up in a housing project was to own my own home. Today I can say I have successfully fulfilled that dream which is one of many. I have owned this home for over 10 years. Since owning my home, a passion for design and the desire of keeping it clean and tidy was a priority for me. I took a class for interior design, received my certificate, and began to think of ways to put it to use. Since the covid-19 pandemic, it became evident that everyone's routine needed to change significantly and the CDC requirements as well as the importance of keeping a safe, healthy, and clean home became necessary to the well-being for a healthy society. This inspired me to start a cleaning business, I thought I need to be of service to people again. I am in school for my bachelors degree in management and after a brief discussion with my professors and my children my decision to manage a cleaning business went into full business plan mode again. I wrote the business plan for Seek Surhrealist Cleaning Servicez (S.S.C.S) after careful and final consideration of what was going on in my personal life, but I knew I could complete it. Now my goal is to build and grow this business with customer satisfaction as my priority.
