A loan helped to purchase fish and other assorted items to increase her business.

Mariama's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 39-year-old Mariama from Aberdeen branch. She is married and has five children between the ages of 12 and 23 years old, and four of them are attending school. She started this business to be financially stable to support herself.

Mariama runs a retail shop business and sells fish and other assorted items. She has been in this business for the past 19 years. Her other source of income comes from her husband’s business. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes during this COVID 19.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase fish and other assorted items to increase her business. Mariama says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business and take care of her family's welfare and her children’s education.

In the future, she would like to establish a larger-scale business. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
