Las Raquelitas De San Julian Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy corn, a stove with a grill, tables and chairs.

Las Raquelitas De San Julian Group's story

When Iris was a child, she learned to make tortillas and how to prepare food. Now, she has her own business making both tortillas and prepared food. Iris is 26 years old, married, and her husband is a day laborer working on a coffee farm. The couple hopes to have children one day. They are planning ahead and putting aside some income for savings.

Iris is requesting her 6th KIVA loan to buy corn, a stove with a grill, tables and chairs. She wants her customers to be comfortable and to provide them with excellent service.

Iris and 6 of her friends are members of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Raquelitas de San Julian". They live in a rural area in the department/state of Suchitepequez in southwestern Guatemala. They sell personal care products, have sewing shops and prepared food businesses.

To build their self esteem and confidence, the ladies participate in monthly educational trainings as part of the Microcredit Plus program of loans, education and healthcare services. The trainings cover every day topics such as hygiene, nutrition, health and how to navigate through the pandemic. They also acquire business skills like planning, budgeting and investing. They appreciate being able to access bi-monthly basic healthcare services when a visiting nurse offers them basic exams and services.

Iris and the ladies in the Trust Bank really appreciate KIVA investors and the Microcredit Plus program of Friendship Bridge. They are poised to step into a brighter future! Thank you!
