Las Boganvilis Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy kitchen utensils, straw baskets, food containers and spices.

Las Boganvilis Group's story

Many traditional recipes in Guatemala often feature beans, chiles and corn. Dishes like “paches”, or tamales made of mashed potatoes and filled with tomatoes, green onion, garlic, and chile peppers, are a good example of the uniqueness of the cuisine.

Juana, a 35 year old married mother of 3 children (7-18), has a small food stand. She gets up early each morning and begins to cook. When finished, she goes to the marketplace in a rural area in the department/state of Suchitepequez. Her business is popular and the business is growing. Juana is requesting her 2nd Kiva loan to buy kitchen utensils, straw baskets, food containers, and spices.

Juana is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Boganvilis”. There are 9 other ladies in the group. In their monthly educational sessions, they acquire effective business management tools to manage their tortilla shops, small restaurants, poultry businesses and sales of personal care products. This is important since they have little or no formal education. Their facilitator uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share information about health, nutrition, hygiene and how to maneuver through this challenging time. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services, also included in the “Microcredit Plus” program.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are giving Juana and her friends the tools they need to move forward. Thank you!!
