Maria Esther's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy agricultural produce from local farmers to sell at the market.

Maria Esther's story

Meet Maria Esther. She and her husband live with their four children in the rural community of Santa Librada, which is located in eastern Panama. They buy produce from farmers in the nearby towns, transport them in their small pickup truck, and then sell them at a farmer’s market in Panama City and to wholesalers who purchase in bulk. Maria Esther and her husband have been in this business for more than nine years.

Her business also helps to support local farmers since she is able to purchase their agricultural products. This helps to increase their sales as they recover from the economic crisis caused by COVID-19. With this loan, Maria Esther will buy agricultural produce such as plantains, avocados, and other fruits, as well as cassava and ginger from local farmers. She and her husband will transport these goods and sell them to institutional buyers. At the moment, they have two pickup trucks, so this loan will enable her to purchase double the inventory.

Thank you for contributing to Maria's first Kiva loan and supporting financial inclusion in rural communities that have been historically excluded from basic financial services.
