A loan helped to buy construction materials to build a house for his family.

Fernando's story

Meet Mr. Fernando,

He is a hard-working man from the Embera-Wounaan indigenous territory of Puerto Lara, in Eastern Panama.

Fernando is a construction worker and also a farmer in his free time. His main crops are plantains and avocados. He is married and has four children. Due to a heavy rain season two years ago, his previous house fell apart, forcing Mr. Fernando to relocate with his family to a temporary location until he finds the means to build a new house in his native community.

In the last two years, with a lot of effort, Fernando and his wife have saved $3,000 dollars towards their new house. With this loan, Fernando is planning to complete the amount needed to buy construction materials and start building a new house for his family.

Thanks for supporting Fernando's dream of providing safe housing for his family. Supporting financial inclusion in indigenous communities that have been historically excluded from basic financial services, is vital to preserving native indigenous territories, ancestral traditions and sustainable economic development.
