Surriya's Group's story

Surriya sells shawls in order to increase her family's financial comfort. She has applied for a loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute in Pakistan) to expand her business selling shawls (a fabric square worn by women over the shoulders or head).

She lives in the city of Multan, which is famous in Pakistan for its sweetmeats and holy places. She owns a small house of two rooms, and has been living in it with her family for over twenty years.

Surriya is a very talented lady and is an expert in her work. She sells embroided and colored shawls to her customers. Her selection of shawls attracts her customers to her business. Multan is famous for its "saint places". To maintain the legacy, women wear shawls to cover their heads as a sign of respect and men also wear scarves on their heads.

With the loan, Surriya will buy the shawls in bulk. She is hopeful that she can greatly increase her income which will help her family have a better financial life.
