Lucy's story

I've been a ceramicist for over 10 years. I make and sell functional ceramics and am passionate about sharing my love for this creative work. With a BA in anthropology and a minor in education, I have been able to make a career out of teaching and working in the field of ceramics. My work as a teacher and manager of the studio has transformed what was formerly a fascination and a hobby into my dream job. I love working with clay because it satisfies both a creative and engineering curiosity in which I can explore forms through structure, design and the intersection of tactile and visual aesthetics. The medium of clay has an intrinsically malleable and practical nature which has been beloved by humans for over 18 thousand years. Our enchantment with clay has perpetuated as we continue finding new uses for this magical material which can even be found in cutting-edge fields such as aerospace engineering. For this reason, I see ceramics not as just a creative form of self-expression, but as a medium through which we can learn art, history, science, engineering, and self-reflection as a species. Our local community has come together around this beautiful, and ever inspiring material and I'm grateful to be able to provide a safe and educational environment for novice and experienced ceramicists to create and explore.
