María Ercilia's story

María Ercilia and her family live in Tosagua. It is a productive canton; the people harvest cacao, coffee, bananas, and corn, among other items. They also do ranching, growing poultry and pigs. It has its own style of food, which is well-known in the area. Their main dish is fried or grilled chame [a type of fish].

María Ercilia has a small bookstore in her house where people come each day to buy school and office supplies. She starts waiting on customers very early, as her customers arrive to buy various products such as paper, cardstock, pens, and folders.

At first the health crisis was very bad for her because she couldn’t make sales. Now, however, her business is coming alive again bit by bit and continuing to generate income.

Her dream is that her business would be bigger and that her family would be very healthy.

This loan is to buy notebooks, folders, graph paper, copy paper, and other school supplies.
