Emelina's story
Emelina lives in Concepcion, Iloilo. She is 54 years old, married, and has one dependent. To earn an income, she and her family do fishing. They have been in this livelihood for many years. Aside from fishing, she also runs a small store for additional income.
Now she asks for a loan of PHP 47, 000 through Kiva’s field partner, CEV (a microfinance NGO) in the Philippines. She will use this loan to buy grocery items like toiletries, noodles, eggs, seasonings, snack food, and drinks. The rest of the loan is used to buy materials to repair their fishing boat, like plywood and paint.
Emelina wants to improve her livelihood in the future for her child’s education.
