Silia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy pandanus leaves for her weaving business and to pay the cost of exporting her finished products.

Silia's story

Silia sends her greetings again. She is a 39-year-old mother of four children. They live in their own home on the island of ‘Eua. Her husband is a farmer and their children currently attend school.

Silia runs a weaving and tapa making business because she is the one in her family who learned these skills. This loan is specifically for her weaving business. Silia is part of a group of women who make tapas. However, for her weaving business, only she and her mother engage in this activity every day. They weave ta’ovala [traditional Tongan garments] and mats, using both white and brown pandanus leaves. When their products are ready to sell, they export them overseas.

Silia is applying for a loan, not only to buy pandanus leaves for her weaving business, but also to pay the cost of exporting her finished mats and ta’ovala overseas. Her vision is to see her businesses grow so that she can generate more income for the benefit of her family.
