Maria Tereza's story
Maria is a 54 year old mother of four. Life has not been easy for her. Since she was young, she has had to work to support her children, even though they are now married. A few years back, she was able to start her own business, a pulpería [small grocery store] that because of funding has allowed her to increase her stock. She started it with some money from a settlement and with her husband's help. Maria wakes up in the early morning hours to sell. In the past months she has not sold enough. Because sales have dropped, she would like to buy more basic products like dry grains, dairy products, sweets, canned goods, and other things. This is to increase sales by rotating goods, since there are many costs to pay for water, light, food, and more. Among her plans is to gain an increase in stock in order to improve her home by painting it so that it will look pretty.
