Abednego's story

Originally born in Malawi, Africa. My family moved to the United States in April of 2004 and we have lived in the city of Pittsburgh for the past 16 years. As immigrants, my parents worked very hard to make sure my younger brothers and I received the best education and prepared us for a brighter future. Seeing the sacrifices my dad made by putting three boys in private schools and paying for college out of pocket has instilled in me gratitude and a drive to excel in all I do to not only to give back but also show that all his sacrifice was not in vain. While in college, I wanted to help my dad pay for my tuition as well as have some spending money so I picked up a part time job. I soon realized the challenges of balancing school and work at the same time, As a result, I started looking for other opportunities to make money and saw an opportunity in selling trendy shoes at discounted prices to my peers. I continued to grow by selling more shoes and started to incorporate other items. Today, I am able to make a monthly profit and even send some home to Malawi to support my family.
