Las Florecitas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a sewing machine and various colors of fabric and thread.

Las Florecitas Group's story

Silvia, a 32-year- old seamstress, employs three people to help fill orders. Her employees are then able to help support their own families! Silvia is a married mother of two children (ages 7 and 11). She has six years of formal education. Silvia has designed styles of canvas pants that are popular in her area. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy a much-needed sewing machine and a variety of fabrics and thread in various colors.

Silvia and six ladies are members of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Florecitas” or “The Little Flowers” in a rural area in the department/state of Quiche. They look forward to their monthly meetings when a Facilitator shares relevant and useful information with them about business management tools, health, nutrition, hygiene, as well as self esteem and empowerment. The Facilitator uses games, role playing, pictures and diagrams to share the information. Every two months, the women have access to health care services in the “Health for Life” program. They can get blood pressure and blood sugar tests, pelvic exams, PAP smears and family planning consults. This is really important because the health care system in Guatemala is very poor. The combination of loans, education and health care is called “Microcredit Plus”.

Silvia and her friends are poised to step into a brighter future, thanks to the generosity of Kiva lenders and Friendship Bridge. Thank you to each of you!
