Dianne's story

The Miss Sweet Potato Pie, Inc. Enterprise is the “brain child” of Dianne Snowden-Johnson. My Enterprise is comprised of a Educational Program and Performing Arts Component with its lead actor, the Child-friendly Character --- Miss Sweet Potato Pie.  In 1998, I decided to launch the character after watching an episode of Oprah on following your dreams. She said to find out your passion and write it down and follow it. I wrote it down next to my favorite script or Habakkuk 2:2:3 " And the Lord answered me, and, said, Write the vision, make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. The name combines my paternal grandmother’s nickname "Sweet" and the fond memory of my maternal grandmother who taught her to make sweet potato pies. I was born in Rochester, New York to The Late Deacon Hughie and Josephine Snowden. I’m the middle child of 6 children. A product of the Rochester City School District, I’m proud to be among the first graduating class of The School of Performance Arts then housed within the Wilson Jr. Sr. High School. From grades 9 – 12 I attended and timely graduated from East High School. Later, I enrolled in Brockport State College; earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in African American studies. My academic career continued at the Nazareth College where I obtained a Master of Science in Education.
