Gema Carolina's story

28-year old Gema Carolina is in a common-law relationship and has two young children who study at elementary and high school. Her partner is a security guard. They live in San Agustín which is part of the Tosagua-Bahía de Caráquez highway. The local people work in agriculture, animal-raising, and selling pool shrimp.

To earn her living Gema Carolina sells Oriflame, Avon, and Belcorp (Lbel, Cyzone, Esika) products such as beauty items, cosmetics, perfume, and women's accessories from catalogs. She works three days a week for two to three hours a day, letting customers have products on credit and then collecting the money every week.

During this world crisis, she has experienced financial difficulties. Her customers couldn't pay because they were unemployed and some died. The health crisis affected Gema Carolina very badly at the beginning as she couldn't go out to make sales. However, she is now slowly reactivating her business and in this way continue to generate an income. She will use the loan to buy perfume, lotions, jewelry, shampoo etc. that have been requested. Her dreams are to have a healthy family and to see her business continue to grow.
