A loan helped to purchase merchandise for her store.

Sothy's story

Sothy is 50 years old and a responsible mother of two children. Both of her children have their own careers, but they usually spend their spare time helping Sothy with her retail business. She has a small convenience store in Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia. Sothy sells various type of household products, snack foods, sweets, and spices. She works hard to complete her daily tasks because she is eager to improve her standard of living. Sothy earns approximately 5 USD per day. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the income from her sales decreased as a result of the reduced demand from the customers in her community. Prices have also been affected, since there have been fewer opportunities for Sothy to obtain products at a lower price than usual.

The income from her business is now barely enough to cover her daily expenses, so she wants to purchase more grocery products to supplement her earnings. Since she has inadequate capital, Sothy is requesting a loan of 10,000,000 KHR to purchase merchandise to sell at her store such as spices, shampoo, soaps, canned goods, snack foods, soft drinks, and other miscellaneous products. She hopes to fill her store with products that will satisfy the needs of her customers.

With the income she will earn, Sothy will be able to provide for her children’s basic needs, such as food and education. She expresses her thanks to all of the lenders for their support and promises to pay back the loan as scheduled.
