Mujeres El Esfuerzo Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy all kinds of vegetables for her produce business.

Mujeres El Esfuerzo Group's story

The produce section in Guatemalan marketplaces is ablaze in colors and there is a huge variety of products. Sellers offer large baskets of all kinds of fruits and vegetables. Thelma, a 33 year old married mother of 6 children (4-17), has a vegetable stand. She shares that during her childhood, she faced many challenges and obstacles. She was unable to attend school. Her husband helps her with the business and she is proud that some of her income supported the education of her 3 oldest children. The rest are still in school.

With the end of the year holidays fast approaching, Thelma plans to buy carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, squash and tomatoes at the wholesale level. She will put aside some of her income toward the continuing education of her 3 younger children.

Thelma and 8 other ladies formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres El Esfuerzo” in the department/state of Chimaltenango. These women are proud of their businesses raising animals, selling fruit and growing basic grains. Their monthly educational sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care, helps them with their businesses. They share that learning about effective business management practices has been especially helpful as has learning about how to navigate through the pandemic. Every two months, they have access to basic health care services.

Thelma and her friends really appreciate the generosity and kindness of KIVA investors. Thank you to each of you!
