San Jose Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy cement blocks, metal sheeting, lumber, cement and nails, plus chairs for waiting customers, corn, firewood and gas.

San Jose Group's story

Fresh hot flavorful corn tortillas are made 3 times daily in small tortilla shops or “tortillerias” in rural Guatemala. Elvia, a 50-year-old single mother of 7 children, has a ‘tortilleria”. There are only a few “tortillerias” in her rural area in the department/state of Retalhuleu. Elvia needs to remodel her store and is requesting her 1st Kiva loan to buy cement blocks, metal sheeting, lumber, cement and nails. She also needs some chairs for waiting customers, corn, firewood and gas.

Elvia, along with 6 other ladies, participates in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care. They have formed the “San Jose” Trust Bank . They are productive ladies with convenience stores, “tortillerias”, small food stands, and fruits and vegetables stands. Others raise animals and sell personal care products. They gain useful business management tools in their monthly meetings along with relevant information about health, hygiene, nutrition and the use of medicinal plants. In the process, the ladies gain self-esteem and confidence. Every other month, they have access to health care services in the “Health for Life” program that provides family planning consultations, blood sugar and hypertension screenings, and more.

Thank you, KIVA investors, for reading about Elvia and her friends. They are opening doors to a brighter future and you are helping them accomplish this!
