Michelle's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to build a pottery workshop allowing us to buy equipment to produce locally.

Michelle's story

My mom and grandfather are the biggest influencers in my business career. Mom is a pioneer in a male-dominated industry she started her own business 20 years ago in the auto body collision services. Grandpa was a salesman back in the 1930’ started his first business selling ice cream cones and he grew to become the first businessman in Puerto Rico to own a car dealer which represents brands like Cadillac and Volkswagen. Since I was a child I have had an entrepreneurial spirit. In high school, I used to make hemp braids with crystal beads. In college, looking for my independence I started a jewelry line. I graduated from college in 2006 and then my life changed, my dad passed away. He promises to help financially to get a master's degree in a foreign country. That situation didn't stop me from my dream. One day my mom gave me the brilliant idea of making an exhibition, to call all my dad's friends - my dad was a social butterfly - I gathered all the contacts I found and called each friend on that list. The opening night, we sold out. I was able to move to Stockholm Sweden with all my expenses covered for two years. All these past events have prepared me to be a strong leader in my industry. For the past 10 years, I have dedicated myself to understand the business of furniture making. I started in a workshop in Puerto Rico, then went to Santo Domingo to make some tryouts. Thanks to my curiosity I found that Mexico City is a country with a history of foreigner design that can move and start their manufacturing companies, so I did that three years ago. Now I’m ready to come back and show what I have learned.
