Emere Pa Trust Bank Group's story

Comfort describes herself as very determined. She is 42 years old and she is the leader of the “Emere pa” (translated as 'good time') borrower group. Comfort lives in Safwi and has been selling porridge and donuts for the past 6 years. Porridge known as ‘koko’ is a local food popularly enjoyed as breakfast. It is prepared with corn dough or millet grains, boiled with a lot of water to make it semi-liquid and eaten hot with sugar, milk, and bread. It can also be eaten with 'kosse', a tasty donut-like food prepared from milled beans mixed with spices and fried in oil. Comfort is excited to be taking out this loan, which she will use to purchase bags of flour, sugar, maize and other food ingredients to improve the quality of her food. She wants to use the extra profits she anticipates as a result of this loan to open more porridge-selling eateries. She is married to a farmer and together they have six children. Comfort hopes to make more savings to be able to provide quality education for all of her children, hopefully through university level.
