Benkelema Ii Group's story
The ten members of the BENKELEMA II group are married women who, on average, are 40 years old and have five children. Most are part of polygamous families in SOKOURANI, a village of the KADIOLO commune, in the Sikasso prefecture (Mali's 3rd administrative region). They work with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to carry out their agricultural activities during the winter. This is their fourth experience with the institution and the past loans went well. The crops cultivated are: rice, peanut (by MAMOU O.) and beans. With the new loan, MAMOU O. plans to buy supplies and small tools to maintain 1 Hectare. After harvest, the production will be sold in the village and in the KADIOLO and ZEGOUA markets to both men and women. She plans to make an average profit of 80.000 CFA after the crop year, which will help pay for the children's schooling and family health costs. This woman from the BENKELEMA II group wishes to maintain her partnership with Soro Yiriwaso so as to make the most of her field and make more profit.
