La Huertecita Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy corn, coffee, meats, lard, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, potatoes, firewood, and other supplies.

La Huertecita Group's story

María del Carmen is 53 years old, married, and a mother of five children. She and her husband were able to raise their five children who are no longer dependent on them. Her husband is a laborer on a farm nearby and she has a business of selling tortillas, ground coffee, and Nicaraguan tamales. Now that her children are no longer dependents, María del Carmen’s goal for the future is to remodel her house. However, at the moment, she wants to invest in her business so that she can set aside some savings and finish various projects.

In their spare time, María and her husband attend a local church, go walking through the park, and enjoy eating delicious enchiladas. She is requesting a Kiva loan from FUNDENUSE to buy corn, coffee, meats, lard, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, potatoes, firewood, and other supplies. María del Carmen is part of the solidarity group “La Huertecita” with the following members:
• Orbelina makes utensils out of clay.
• Karla sells clay ceramics.
• Sonia makes tortillas, ground coffee, and tamales.
• María Azuecena makes tortillas and ground coffee.

This group of five determined women work hard day after day to improve their living conditions.
