A loan helped a women-owned local dry cleaners to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis.
Our family immigrated to the US from South Korea in April 1995 for the chance at a better opportunity for my son and my daughter. I was a homemaker in Korea, but in the US, I worked 12+ hours a day to help provide for my family as a waitress, a cook, a babysitter and much more. My husband and I would work different shifts so that somebody could be home for our young children. My twenties and thirties quickly passed by, and my husband and I finally saved enough money to take over for a small dry cleaners in 2001. After spending so much time apart from one another due to different work schedules, my husband and I were able to spend every day together. After our first business closed, I gained to courage to try something on my own. I had 15 years of experience at a dry cleaners, and my daughter encouraged me to try to something on my own. With her and my husband's help, I decided to take on a small dry cleaners in Chicago.
