Las Cinco Rosas De Beleju Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy brooms, baskets and wicker mats.

Las Cinco Rosas De Beleju Group's story

Odilia is a 29-year-old woman, married, and has 3 children, ages 6 and 9, and one of 9 months old. She has a business selling carpets, brooms and baskets. Odilia sells in two markets near her community. She started this business a while ago and now it is time to increase the stock of her products. For that reason, she is requesting her first Kiva loan and thus be able to sell in other markets and get new customers.

This enterprising woman is the president of the communal bank “Las cinco rosas de Beleju” (The five roses of Beleju), which has other seven women as members. They live in the rural area of the department of Quiché, and they speak the Mayan language “poqomchi” and a little bit of Spanish.

Odilia had the opportunity to study until the fourth grade, but most of the other members did not have the opportunity to go to school. They have learned to manage their small businesses such as rearing small animals, selling of fruits and vegetables, selling of carpets, wicker mats and brooms. All of this thanks to their desire to succeed.

Besides the financial aid, these women receive training as part of the program of microloans plus which combines educational sessions, health services and microloans. The topics of business management, health, family and women are quite relevant for their lives.

Odilia wants the Kiva lenders to know that she and her team members have hope in a better future and also have hope in these loans that are of great help to them.
