Las Gemelas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to invest in the purchase of furniture, like chairs and tables, and of seafood as well.

Las Gemelas Group's story

Places that sell ceviche are very popular in any part of Guatemala. Cándida spends several hours chopping ingredients for this delicious meal. She sells it from a space at her home, in one of the most charming villages on the shore of lake Atitlán.

Cándida is 32 years old. She is married and has a son who is 11 years old. With her income Cándida can help her husband in paying the household costs and the education of their son. Even though she only studied until year 9, she managed to set up her business and run it successfully for a long time.

Cándida now needs to increase the number of customers. For this reason she is asking for her 7th Kiva loan. She wants to invest in the purchase of furniture, like chairs and tables, and of seafood as well.

The communal bank Las Gemelas consists of 6 women from the department/state of Sololá. They have learnt to run their business effectively; businesses like selling chicken meat, meals, jewelry or artisanal products. Every month a facilitator shares relevant and useful information with these women. The topics come from 4 areas: health, family, women, and business administration. All this is part of the program Microcrédito Plus for loans, education, and health services.

Cándida is grateful for the help from Kiva lenders. Thanks to the loans they will get ahead and improve the conditions of their lives. Thank you!
