Paxixil Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy another sewing machine, accessories, thread, and fabric.

Paxixil Group's story

Sebastiana, age 36, is the mother of one child, age 14. She and her husband are tailors. They make clothing that they sell at retail. Despite the markets having different hours due to worldwide Covid-19, Sebastiana is selling her products. She wants to take advantage of the festivities at the end of the year, which is approaching, so she is requesting her fifth loan from Kiva lenders. Sebastiana will use the funds to invest in the purchase of another sewing machine, accessories, thread, and fabric to increase production.

Sebastiana is the secretary of the communal bank "Paxixil", part of "Puente de Amistad" [Friendship Bridge] in the department [state] of Totonicapán. She and the other six women in the group speak the Mayan language "K'iche". The other women in the group work in tailoring, pharmacy, raising animals, and selling lime. The group members benefit from receiving monthly training that covers topics including business, family, health, and women. Sebastiana very much enjoyed the topic of investment, because that helped her to plan, budget, and keep her business going during the crisis. Every two months, the women have a video conference with a nurse who teaches methods for maintaining health. These additional benefits are part of the “Microcrédito Plus” program.

The women are grateful to the Kiva lenders for helping with their development through these loans. Thank you!
