Sharon's story

Wonderful Kiva lenders! The remote town of Litein is home to Sharon. She is a married woman, aged 26, who has 2 lovely school going children. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a quality education. Sharon’s primary sources of income are crops and animal farming. She also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle. The Litein area is a favourable area for farming, so she is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds. This will enable her to grow more crops to reap maximum profits and increase her business. Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially the Litein area, is very challenging, but Sharon feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her. Her goal is to improve her living conditions and secure the future of her children. Her biggest dreams are to be able to support her family by herself, become independent, and buy a home. This loan will ensure a rich harvest and income. Sharon is so grateful to her lenders for understanding and empowering a woman.
