Abdulkadir's story

Abdulkadir is a refugee, but, more than that, he is a skilled entrepreneur and a business owner with a proven track record of success. He runs a grocery and M-pesa shop in the Kakuma refugee camp. Since starting the business in 2014, it has gained a good reputation in the camp and has, over the years, amassed a strong base of loyal customers.

It all started in 2001, when Abdulkadir fled the violence in his native home of Ethiopia due to political insecurities. After resettling in Kenya, Abdulkadir started the business as a way of providing a means of livelihood for his family.

The business has grown considerably over the past few years and serves the community with affordable grocery items and mobile money transfer services conveniently. As a result of the growth in his business, he has been able to accommodate two employees at the store.

After participating in AEC’s business training program focused on improving financial management and increasing sales, Abdulkadir is requesting a loan to grow his business even more. This loan will help him increase working capital so as to purchase additional food items for the store.
