Faridah's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase iron sheets, cement, and other items to sell.

Faridah's story

Faridah is 26 years old and lives in the town of Kyengera, which is in the Kyengera region of Uganda. She is widowed and has three children, two of whom are currently in school. For the past four years, Faridah has been working hard to manage her hardware shop where she sells various products.

To help expand her business, Faridah has requested a loan of 1,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase iron sheets, cement, and other items to sell. This will help Faridah generate greater profits so that she can save some money and send her children to better schools since she is a widow. In the future, Faridah hopes to start a poultry farm.

Faridah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
