A loan helped to buy fish, crabs, and octopus to sell.

Leah's story

Leah lives in a village that is a 15-minute drive from Port Vila, Vanuatu. Her community is very small and the main industry is tourism. Due to the worldwide impact of COVID-19, Vanuatu has banned cruise ships and incoming flights. As a result, Leah’s community was deeply affected.

Leah is 47 years old and a mother of two children, ages 9 and 15. She lives in her own home with her husband and children. Leah requested a loan to buy fish, crabs, and octopus from the local fishermen who get their catch from the outer islands. She will sell her products in her community to increase her income.

Leah had always worked in tourism by selling souvenirs. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to switch businesses. Leah has relatives who always send her family fish and crabs, so she took the initiative to start a new business. She dreams of providing a better education for her children and building a better home for herself and her family.
