A loan helped to purchase additional inventory of clothing items.

Duncan's story

Duncan is a father of two, a husband and a skilled and experienced Kenyan entrepreneur who owns and runs a clothing boutique store at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. The business is strategically located to serve both refugees and the host community with quality clothing items, at an affordable price.

Duncan started the boutique business in 2017 as a way of providing a stable means of livelihood for his family. To date, the business has gained a good reputation in the camp and has a strong base of loyal customers. The business has grown considerably over the past years as a result of the ever-increasing demand for such affordable clothing items. The business has been able to employ one additional staff at the store to help in its running.

Duncan was a beneficiary of a first loan from AEC which he used to expand the business by adding on the existing stock. He was able to successfully repay the loan on time and with ease and is now looking to get a subsequent loan in order to further increase working capital to enable him to purchase additional inventory of clothing items to meet the demand at the camp. This will enable him continue providing the community with more clothing options, and at the same time continue providing a stable means of livelihood for his family.
