Chuijenses Group's story

Eugenia is a 31-year-old woman who is empowered by the “Microcredit Plus” program with Friendship Bridge that offers loans, education, and healthcare services. Six other people in her group also receive these benefits. Eugenia has a business of sewing sportswear. She employs two people, which means a total of 18 people are impacted by her loan! Eugenia has high standards and guarantees the quality of her clothing. She is well-known in her rural area in the State of Totonicapan. Eugenia is requesting a Kiva loan to buy fabric and thread in various colors.

She is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Chuijenses” along with six other women who are her neighbors. These women raise animals and work as seamstresses. They are proud of their businesses and learn now to manage them during their monthly educational seminars. In addition, they learn about topics related to hygiene, health, and nutrition. Especially important during this time of the pandemic are subjects such as social distancing, wearing masks, and hand washing. The women also learn how to publicize their businesses on Facebook and WhatsApp. Since good health is a foundation for a successful business, these women can meet with a visiting nurse every two months to receive preventative health care services. Fortunately, many prevalent health issues in Guatemala are preventable.

By funding this loan, Kiva lenders can give a helping hand to Eugenia and her friends. Thank you!
