Sama's Female Farmers Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for improved seeds, organic inputs, and tractor rental in order to achieve higher yields.

Sama's Female Farmers Group's story

Sama K (the first person on the left) is the featured borrower of Sama’s Female Farmers Group and the representative for their first and second loans. These loans have enabled them to break free from local moneylenders who were charging nearly 100% interest. As a result, all of the group members have fully recovered their businesses. The group also expanded their farming operations and created a support fund to help members pay for their children’s school fees.

Sierra Leone is currently experiencing a difficult time economically because of rising fuel costs and the increased price of imported rice. The COVID-19 pandemic is also causing food shortages in some areas. This group would like to take advantage of these conditions and increase their production since the price of rice is on the rise. Increased production will greatly enhance the livelihoods of the members and also increase food security in Sierra Leone at a time when it is badly needed.

The group is requesting its third loan so that they can expand production, grow their businesses, and increase local food security.
