A loan helped to increase working capital for purchase of additional grocery stock for the store..

Magdaline's story

Magdaline, a mother of five, is a skilled seasoned and experienced Kenyan entrepreneur who owns and runs a grocery store at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. The business is strategically located to serve both refugees and the host community with grocery and food items, affordably.

Magdaline moved to Kakuma in 2007 and started the grocery store business soon after. To date, the business has gained a good reputation in the camp and has a strong base of loyal customers. The business has grown considerably over the past years as a result of the ever-increasing demand for affordable grocery and food items. She has been able to employ one staff at the store to help in running the business.

Magdaline was a beneficiary of a first loan from AEC which she used to add stock for the store. She was able to successfully repay the loan on time and with ease and is now looking to getting a subsequent loan in order to further increase her working capital. This will allow her to purchase additional grocery stock to meet the demand at the camp, hence enabling her continue to provide the community with more options. And at the same time continue providing a stable means of livelihood for her family.
