Maburuk's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to increase on working capital for purchase of additional grocery stock for the business.

Maburuk's story

Maburuk is a refugee, but more than that, he is a father of nine, a husband, a skilled and experienced entrepreneur who owns and runs a retail grocery store at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. The business is strategically located to serve both his fellow refugees and the host community with food items, affordably.

Maburuk fled the violence in his native home of Somalia in 2008 and after resettling at the Kakuma Refugee Camp, started the business in 2013 which provides him with a stable source of income. To date, the business has gained a good reputation in the camp and has a strong base of loyal customers.

The store has grown considerably over the past few years as a result of the ever-increasing demand for grocery and food items, and has been able to employ five additional staff to help in its running.

After actively participating in AEC’s business training program focused on improving financial management and increasing sales, Maburuk is requesting a loan to grow the business even further. He is requesting for a loan in order to further increase working capital to enable him purchase additional grocery stock for the store to meet the demand at the camp.

This will enable him continue providing the community with more options, and at the same time continue providing a stable means of livelihood for his family.
