Fidel's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to increase working capital for purchase of additional clothes to sell.

Fidel's story

Fidel is a refugee, but also is a skilled and experienced entrepreneur who owns and runs a boutique store selling clothes and shoes at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. The business is strategically located to serve both his fellow refugees and the host community.

Fidel fled the violence in his native home of DR Congo in 2017, and after resettling at the Kakuma Refugee Camp, soon started the boutique. The business provides him with a stable source of income. To date, the business has gained a good reputation in the camp and has a strong base of loyal customers. The business has grown considerably over the past few years as a result of the ever-increasing demand for affordable clothing. The business has been able to employ one additional staff member to help run the business.

Fidel benefited from an initial AEC loan that he used to expand the business into a second shop. He was able to successfully repay the loan with ease and is now looking for another loan to further increase working capital to enable him purchase additional stock for the boutique to meet the demand at the camp. This will enable him continue providing the community with more options, and at the same time continue providing his family a stable income.
