Kojo's story

Kojo is an experienced entrepreneur who lives in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. After fleeing violence in his native home of Sudan in 2000, Kojo started his grocery store business to provide for his family and serve both his fellow refugees and the host community. The business has grown exponentially over the past few years as he has amassed a loyal base of customers and is well-known within the camp.

Kojo was a beneficiary of a first loan from AEC that he used to expand the business. He was able to add stock to meet the growing demand for affordable grocery and food items at the camp. He successfully repaid the loan on time and with ease and is now looking for a subsequent loan to allow him increase his working capital. The additional financing will be used to add grocery and food items to his store. Additional stock will allow him to continue providing the community with a variety of options for consumption, and at the same time grow the business.
