Las Fabulosas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy secondhand clothing for women, men, and children.

Las Fabulosas Group's story

Secondhand clothing, often delivered in bales called “pacas," are popular throughout Guatemala. Karen, the 27-year-old married mother of two children, sells this clothing where she lives in the department/state of Retalhuleu. At the end of each year, she does inventory and draws up plans for the upcoming year. This year has been uniquely challenging due to the pandemic and Karen has had to be innovative and creative to maintain and increase sales. She is advertising on Facebook and WhatsApp. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy sweatshirts, T-shirts, shirts, blouses, skirts, and pants to sell.

Karen is the treasurer of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Fabulosas." There are six other people in the group who have small restaurants, and sell personal care products, secondhand clothing and airtight plastic containers. The women understand the importance of effective business practices, learning to invest, and saving. At their monthly meetings, they participate in educational trainings where they learn about health, women’s issues, family matters, and business. Every two months, the women have access to preventative health care services. Friendship Bridge calls this combination of loans, education and health care “Microcredit Plus."

Thank you, Kiva investors, for lending a helping hand to Karen and her friends. They are well on their way to a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families, and their community in Retalhuleu!
