A loan helped An African American woman-owned business sell plus-size woman clothes.

Sabrina's story

My name is Sabrina. I have been a plus size woman all my life. From my early teens, it has always been hard for me to find clothes that fit how I like, that look sexy and that are at a reasonable price. I have tried to find all three in one place but it is next to impossible. Most stores carry only a small amount of plus size women’s clothes. Sometime I may be able to find a few items that have all three. Most of the time they were items that were online and we had to order them without the chance to try them on first and they were expensive to a low income person. I want to give the plus size women the opportunity to find all three of these factors in all of our items and to be able to try these items on first. This way they can see how it fits and if they need to pick a different size but they will be able to find that size at our store as well and all at a reasonable price. They may have to go a size smaller or bigger and they can do that the same day also. They would not have to wait to return the item by mail then have to wait for it to come back to them which could take days, weeks or even months. And now because of the pandemic, we are going mobile so that we can go to different locations in different towns and cities setting up a pop-up boutique. I think of myself as a small business owner that is trying to offer plus size women a place that would be comfortable for them to find clothes and accessories for them with confidence and ease. Somewhere that they won’t feel like someone is judging them. And the best place to get this confidence is a place owned by someone who has experienced the unease feeling of being judged.
