Mujeres Capacitadas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped Pork, two dozen pairs of pants, panties, and bras.

Mujeres Capacitadas Group's story

Justa is the coordinator of her group Mujeres Capacitadas (Capable Women), and her story is representative both of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti) clients generally. Her group is located in Puerto Plata, a northern port town whose economy is dependent on tourism and where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple structure as a single mother with her four children.

Justa is excited to be taking her fifth loan with Esperanza after having fully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business selling chicharrones (fried pork fat) and clothing by purchasing pork, pants, panties and bras to sell. She will use the profits to invest in her home by changing the walls from wood to cement block, a major improvement in the termite-infested, hurricane-prone Dominican Republic. Justa thanks all of you for your support.
