La Ceiba De Coatepeque Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy plastic cutlery and kitchen utensils along with spices.

La Ceiba De Coatepeque Group's story

Single mothers throughout the world must be focused and determined to be the sole support of their families. Nely, a 35-year-old mother of two children (12 and 14), is keenly aware of this since her husband left her nine years ago.

Because she is hardworking and has set goals, Nely has so far been successful with her prepared food business. Some of her income has been earmarked for the education of her children, who are in primary and secondary schools.

She is in need of some essential supplies and has requested a Kiva loan to buy plastic cutlery, kitchen utensils, and spices at the wholesale level.

Nely lives in a rural area in the department/state of Quetzaltenango. Along with six other women, she is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Ceiba de Coatepeque.” These independent ladies have bakeries, tortilla shops, and fabricate/sell colorful traditional textiles.

The “Microcredit Plus” program (loans, educational training sessions, and health care services) helps them empower themselves and move forward. The monthly educational sessions cover topics related to health, family, women and business. Every other month, they can spend time with a visiting nurse who offers basic health care services. There has been a great deal of emphasis on the importance of wearing masks, sanitation practices and keeping social distance during this time of COVID.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for learning about Nely and her friends! They would appreciate your support!
