Marlene's story

Marlene is a 67-year-old entrepreneur. She is married and lives in the city of Barranquilla. This small business owner was motivated to start her sewing workshop by a desire to find another source of income for her family.
Marlene worked as an employee for a long time, she saved up and with her own money she bought a sewing machine so she could become independent. Her business has grown such that today she has five machines and she has also contributed to generating employment and has two employees.
Marlene works with dedication, joy and effort to give her products a delicate, elegant and precise touch in the sewing that her customers like so much. She makes clinical uniforms, clothing for women and men, sports clothing and custom made items.
Her sales were affected by the pandemic and with that, her income, but thanks to her ingenuity she began making clinical uniforms and her sales increased generating excellent profits. She needs to increase her inventory to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 due to the increase in demand and she is currently applying for a Kiva loan, her first loan from Fundación Santo Domingo, to invest in thread, elastics, zippers, fabric, buttons, a cover stitch sewing machine and basic sewing machine.
Marlene wants to increase her productivity to improve her income. For this she needs an injection of capital to strengthen her plans for her business. Support her with a loan, so that she can be successful.
