A loan helped to purchase cookery ingredients: palm oil, oil, Maggi seasoning, fish, chicken, rice, pepper and other assorted items to increase her business.

Mary's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 39 year old Mary from Wilberforce branch. She is married with two children aged 17 and 21 years old and both of them are attending school.

Mary runs a retail business and sells cookery (stews with a palm oil base, plus spicy seasonings and chicken or fish and served with rice) and other assorted items. She started this business to care for her family welfare. She has been in this business for 10 years now. Her other source of income comes from her husband’s business. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes during this COVID 19 pandemic.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase cookery ingredients: palm oil, oil, Maggi seasoning, fish, chicken, rice, pepper and other assorted items to increase her business.

Mary says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business and take care of her family. In the future, she would like to establish it to a larger scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
