Mujeres Con Beneficio Group's story

Offering her delicious recipes to grateful customers has enabled 40-year-old Norma to develop a successful business. She is married with 2 children (1, 7). She lives in a rural area in the department/state of Suchitepequez.

Because of the restrictions imposed by the government during the pandemic, Norma advertises her prepared foods on social media (Facebook and WhatsApp). Her husband delivers the meals.

With her income, she has been able to send her older son to elementary school. Norma plans to enlarge the business. She is requesting her 1st Kiva loan to buy a stove, kitchen utensils and spices.

Norma is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres con Beneficio” or “Women with Benefits.” The 7 ladies in the group have small restaurants, sell used clothing or raise animals. They enjoy their monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational training sessions, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. They empower themselves as they learn about effective business practices, healthy habits, good nutrition and women’s roles/rights. On a bi-monthly basis, a nurse comes to them and offers family planning, basic health care exams, Pap smears, blood sugar and blood pressure checks and more.

Norma and her friends have set their sights on a brighter future with educated children and a higher standard of living. Thank you, Kiva investors, for your kindness in funding these loans!
