Mariama's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 39-year-old Mariama from Waterloo branch. She is married and has five children between the ages of 10 and 23 years old, and four of them are attending school.

Mariama runs a retail business and sells fast food, clothing and other assorted items. She started her business to support her family. She has been in this business for the past eight years. Her other source of income comes from her husband’s business. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes during this COVID-19 pandemic.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase food stuffs such as rice, pepper, maggi, onions, fish, oil, palm oil, flour, beans and other assorted items to increase her business. Mariama says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business and her family welfare.

In the future, she would like to establish in to a larger scale. She says thanks to BRAC Sierra Leon and Kiva for their support.
