Las Perlitas Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a variety of traditional clothing to resell.

Las Perlitas Group's story

Since the onset of the pandemic in Guatemala, women like 75 year old Catarina have had to be creative and innovative with their businesses. Catarina, a Maya K’iche mother of 6 children (30) sells colourful traditional textiles.

One of her children has helped her develop her business online during this challenging time when markets are closed or have greatly reduced hours.

After planning carefully, Catarina is requesting her 2nd KIVA loan to buy a variety of traditional clothing. Her goals are to attract more customers and increase both sales and income.

Catarina is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Perlitas” or “The Little Pearls” located in a rural area in the department/state of Totonicapan.

There are 6 other ladies in the group who look forward to their monthly meetings. These women are so proud of their businesses that include the fabrication and sales of traditional clothing, as well as sewing pants and jackets.

They acquire information about basic business practices along with practical guidance about health, women’s issues and family matters. Every other month, they have access to health services. This useful combination of education, health care and loans is called “Microcredit Plus”.

KIVA lenders, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are highly valued by Catarina and her friends. Thanks to each of you!
