Salimata Doucoure's story
Salimata is the mother of three children, two of whom attend school and one in daycare. She has been working as a merchant for a few years already. Her dream is to become a large merchant and business woman. She sells juice made from local produce. Her region of Ziguinchor is the primary fruit region of Senegal. There, we find all the varieties of fruit, especially wild fruit. She wants to use this opportunity to restructure her business by modernizing it and targeting domestic markets within the region and the country. She wants to acquire suitable equipment and sufficient stock while prices are low. Salimata's customers fall into all age brackets from children to adults and her sales locations are large meeting places (schools, bus stations, markets etc.) With this loan, she plans to acquire a few carts and employ youth to sell drinks made from local fruits (mango juice, sorrel, orange juice, and baobab fruit juice etc.) All of these fruits are abundant in Casamance and during this time are rotting in the forest. This investment will allow Salimata to improve the quality of her products and significantly increase her profits and contribute to changes in her family's living conditions by giving her children a better education.
