A loan helped to buy fingerlings for her fish farm.

Thanh An 40 Group's story

Ms. Thuong, a 38-year-old Thai ethnic woman, was married very young and has two older children: a son studies at the university, and a daughter is in ninth grade. Her family lives in a house on stilts in Dien Bien province in the northwest mountains of Vietnam.

Her husband is an accountant in the commune and is the main income-generator in the family. She does some work, such as growing rice and corn, and raising pigs, buffaloes, chickens, ducks and fish, to earn extra income.

She is an active person, so in addition to farming, she is also active in the commune council. She also likes to develop breeding work, especially fish raising, because fish are easy to raise and have little disease.

She decided to get a loan from the Anh Chi Em program to invest in buying fingerlings to expand her fish raising. She hopes that her 18 years of experience in fish farming together with technical support from the program's staff, will help her investment to be successful and profitable. In this way, she can continue to replicate the model of fish farming, improve the economics, and pay tuition fees for her children.

In the picture, Ms. Thuong is wearing a black shirt and is holding a white hat.
