A loan helped to expand her business by purchasing more baking equipment and ingredients.

Susan's story

Susan is a 30-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and three children in the Mafinga district in Zambia. She operates a small business selling bread and rolls. Susan is requesting a Kiva loan to expand her business by purchasing more baking equipment and ingredients in order to meet her customers' demands. She will use the profit she earns to support her family's basic needs and to conduct charity work in her community.

Susan will repay the ‘social interest’ on her loan by volunteering three hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, facilitating sessions from CAMFED’s ‘My Better World Program’ with students at her local secondary school, helping to build children’s self-esteem and motivating them to remain in school. She will also conduct home visits to learners at risk of dropping out of school and connect them with the support they need to stay in school.
